  My Grandpapa lives in a wonderful house
- s9 M/ o/ W" `$ f5 D* ^' S  With a great many windows and doors,
8 p+ J( L' i1 _9 i; d6 f8 R  There are stairs that go up, and stairs that go down,. q; o7 s. p# W# I
  And such beautiful, slippery floors.
/ ~/ D& m  I" o) U  U2 W7 `8 ?# Y0 X: t  But of all of the rooms, even mother's and mine,4 w- x2 `# W! L7 w' V9 a
  And the bookroom, and parlour and all,
. L( J, _0 U6 l1 Q/ t" b  I like the green dining-room so much the best/ c, ^& v4 s9 z3 M0 V0 _, ~
  Because of its ceiling and wall.' ?4 ~* Q5 h' o  X$ B# q
  Right over your head is a funny round hole
& \0 C/ E& y$ p* G0 Z  With apples and pears falling through;5 [, g" F: r  z2 x9 K, s* o
  There's a big bunch of grapes all purply and sweet,
: M( S2 C7 h: x# t0 ^  And melons and pineapples too.3 A5 f% ]* f' r+ q: F5 X, {3 ^
  They tumble and tumble, but never come down
6 M1 L! {+ H/ U% V9 [! u  Though I've stood underneath a long while
1 P2 P6 x& h! T' x) P2 f, j* Y  With my mouth open wide, for I always have hoped% k/ a5 H0 p6 e' p5 L5 Z
  Just a cherry would drop from the pile.& y4 j  k1 X0 i6 f6 p# [
  No matter how early I run there to look
& N& x+ \; F) C4 A  _$ U  It has always begun to fall through;; X: m  f% c% w/ |8 V
  And one night when at bedtime I crept in to see,
; v9 K+ e& C$ F/ U9 u$ P: K9 Y  It was falling by candle-light too.
+ S, h! |; i7 z  I am sure they are magical fruits, and each one
, F, y7 t+ K/ C* x& S% M1 O. m  Makes you hear things, or see things, or go  q! Z8 O) g) L- `0 R+ P+ r  p
  Forever invisible; but it's no use,6 n+ h. Y+ ^; h5 z# F8 n  v) t; N
  And of course I shall just never know.
9 X; Z( N3 q0 M- }  For the ladder's too heavy to lift, and the chairs2 {& @+ o6 M% D
  Are not nearly so tall as I need.
! v* N8 T, k) h" C, r5 T7 J( F7 F  I've given up hope, and I feel I shall die
, P& R/ h& P! \) ?' M0 d  Without having accomplished the deed.
4 |% `/ W) X# R$ g4 V3 F  It's a little bit sad, when you seem very near. G2 F; I% s( l
  To adventures and things of that sort,
3 M6 ^: X, E( p5 I/ d( K8 y, T  Which nearly begin, and then don't; and you know
% L/ B( J) V. ^. Y  It is only because you are short.
2 {6 n; E( m1 o+ L' J, p. c9 Z( S8 o! T9 G% b4 D$ I
